10 Tips to Get Rid of Acne Scars

Skin Care - Sarapy ClinicThere are many different treatments that may be more or less effective in reducing the stigma of acne scarring, and each of them may be worth a look, depending on the individual, and the type of scarring.

Here are 10 tips known to get rid of acne scars:

Fenugreek Seeds

The nutty spice isn’t just good for curries, its high concentration of antioxidants can also reduce acne scars. Boil whole seeds in water until they are soft enough to mash into a paste. Once cool, apply the paste to affected areas, or as a mask, for fifteen minutes, then rinse.

Lemon juice

This long embraced home remedy works on acne scars thanks to its acidity and antibacterial properties. Make sure to dilute lemon juice with water before applying with a cotton ball or swab, and try not to get any on your healthy skin. Wash off after 20 minutes and apply moisturizer. Lemon juice makes your skin sensitive to sunlight, so stay indoors or use strong sunscreen to prevent further breakouts.

Baking soda

This common refrigerator deodorizer makes a great natural exfoliate to get rid of raised acne scars. Mix the powder with water into a paste, then massage into your skin. After three minutes, rinse with cold water.

Olive oil

Nutrient rich olive oil reduces the inflammation associated with acne scarring. First massage the oil into your skin to saturate your pores. Then place a hot towel over your face to let the pores open up before gently wiping clean. This can be repeated a couple times per night, as necessary.

Coconut oil

The moisturizing properties of coconut oil works to soften acne scars, while its vitamins replenish the skin. Let some oil raise to body temperature in your hand, then massage into scarred skin. Wash it off after 30 minutes, or leave it on if you prefer.

Pearl powder and honey

Honey’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties work on their own to help get rid of acne scars. But mixing in a bit of pearl powder, a staple of Chinese medicine, does more to reduce inflammation and help scars fade.

Aloe vera

Well known as a salve for minor burns, aloe vera gel also naturally rejuvenates and moisturizes the skin. Gently rub into your skin and leave it on for a half hour before rinsing away.

Cucumber

A lot of beauticians like to use cucumber slices to rejuvenate tired, puffy eyes. The same nutrients and hydrating properties can be used to get rid of acne scars. Simply place thin slices on the affected areas and let sit for thirty minutes, then rinse.

LimeLight Facial

This advanced treatment technique uses an intense pulsed light (IPL) to heat and get rid of pigmentation in acne scars, freckles, sun spots and more. The laser treatment results in even skin tone, and may be used to stimulate collagen production to reduce acne scars.

Portrait by Rhytec

This very new treatment of acne scars utilizes nitrogen in a plasma state to kill dead cells and scar tissue in the skin, while stimulating collagen production that may continue for months after treatment. This treatment is noninvasive, meaning it never actually makes contact with the skin — rather it radiates plasma energy to provide an effective and quick-healing treatment.
